Je Tzong Khapa, (1357 - 1419), è venerato come uno dei più importanti lama e yoghin tibetani, i cui eclettici e analitici studi e meditazioni, compiuti sotto la guida di maestri di tutte le scuole tibetane dell'epoca, (Kadam, Sakya, Kagyu e Nyingma), hanno avuto come risultato la fondazione della scuola e sistema dottrinale dei Ghelupa, la cui grande importanza nell'eredità e nella preservazione del Buddhismo tibetano viene universalmente riconosciuta.
