Negli anni '30 in Illinois, Michael Sullivan, che sembra un tranquillo padre di famiglia, è in realtà un killer molto temuto soprannominato "l'Angelo", luogotenente del gangster irlandese John Rooney insieme al figlio di questi, Connor.
